On April 30, 2020 ITS welcomed the largest vessel ever to call its facility, the ONE Aquila from Japan’s ONE Line. The call was the first from the FP-2 (Far East Pacific 2) service, assigned to ITS by The Alliance (comprised of members ONE, HMM, Yang Ming and Hapag Lloyd). The FP-2 is a new pendulum service operated by 18 modern 14,000 TEU vessels and provides added weekly Transpacific coverage between South East Asia and Southern California.
This milestone was the result of years of planning and investment by the ITS Staff and Shareholders to develop a berth (G232) capable of handling a 14,000 TEU vessel. In addition to the berth enhancements, ITS has invested in Crane Raise and Outreach modifications and an updated fleet of container handling equipment.
The M/V ONE Aquila, built in 2018, is 364.15m (LOA) x 51.0m (Breadth) and has a total capacity of 14,052 TEU.
The vessel commenced cargo operations at ITS on 4/30/2020 at 18:00 and departed on 5/5/2020 at 18:00. The operation was safely completed with 50 ILWU container gangs.
